Controller (KC26667)

Our client is a rapidly growing real estate company that is currently looking for a Controller to join their team.  This position will lead, manage and perform all aspects of property accounting. The Controller will oversee the accounting and understand the monthly requirements for a portfolio of multiple properties. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • The Controller will prepare reports to summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Manage dispositions and acquisitions of properties including onboarding of newly acquired properties and setting up client financial reporting requirements.
  • Perform review of budgets and reforecasts per client deadlines.
  • Review and post all accounts payable, accounts receivable, lease abstracts and billing for portfolio on a daily basis.
  • Perform final review and approval of monthly financial packages before they are issued to clients.
  • Follow and enforce existing internal control policies and procedures to maintain SOC 1 compliance. Serve as audit liaison for portfolio; assist with external and tenant operational audits as needed.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day development, mentorship and management of property accounting staff.
  • The Controller will perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

The Controller will possess the following:


  • The Controller will have 10+ years’ commercial real estate accounting experience; public accounting experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting, financial statements, budgeting and forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to work effectively with all levels of an organization.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products. Experience with Yardi is required, MRI strongly preferred.
  • The Controller will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA a plus.
